Lectures

 

Research

Jan Frenzel is leading the Materials Processing research group. In research and teaching, he investigates the relationships between processing conditions, microstructures, and the properties of modern functional and structural materials. Key scientific focus areas include melting and solidification of alloys, thermomechanical post-treatment, and the accompanying microstructural characterization. Advanced scale-bridging methods are employed for microstructural analysis. In special cases, novel characterization techniques are used, such as special tomographic approaches and a high-resolution EBSD technique developed in-house in the course of earlier research projects. Jan Frenzel conducts research in the fields of shape memory alloys and Ni-base superalloys. He is a member of the scientific advisory boards of the European Symposium on Martensitic Transformations (ESOMAT) and the International Conference on Martensitic Transformations (ICOMAT), as well as the editorial boards of the journals Shape Memory and Superelasticity and Materials. In his teaching, he offers lectures on the experimental methods of materials science, shape memory alloys, materials recycling, and scanning electron microscopy.
