Head: Adj. Prof. Dr. Guillaume Laplanche
The research group “Microstructure and Mechanical Properties”, led by Guillaume Laplanche, focuses on two types of face-centered cubic (FCC) structured engineering alloys: wrought Ni-base superalloys and high-entropy alloys (HEAs). The group investigates the high-temperature thermal stability of these alloys, particularly the evolution of beneficial phases like γ’-precipitates and detrimental phases such as topologically close-packed phases during heat treatments. Experimental findings are validated against thermodynamic calculations and simulations of diffusion, precipitation, and coarsening kinetics to uncover the underlying mechanisms. Additionally, the group studies the mechanical behavior and deformation mechanisms of superalloys and HEAs across a wide temperature range (-200 to 1000 °C), examining both their intrinsic properties and the impact of various precipitates on mechanical properties and long-term microstructural stability.
