Creep Laboratory

Creep is the time-dependent plastic deformation at high temperatures. The creep rate is highly dependent on stress (power law) and temperature (Arrhenius function). At the Chair for Materials Science and Engineering, there is a creep laboratory where the creep behavior of high-temperature materials can be recorded. In particular, deformed material states are generated in the creep laboratory, which are then characterized by means of microscopy. Additionally, there is interest in innovative experiments (miniature creep specimen, double shear creep specimen, specimens with round notches). Currently, eight conventional creep machines and one with a protective atmosphere furnace are in use, as well as a testing machine on which hot tensile tests are performed.
