Oluwaseyi Oluwabi returned to our chair for Materials Science and Engineering as a postdoc in 2025. We were able to reattract him after a brief period in industry. Seyi is working on a project in Jan Frenzel’s Shape Memory Group, which focuses on the use of low-temperature waste heat to generate mechanical work. Shape memory alloys feature a high efficiency for applications in this technologically and scientifically interesting field and are also relatively cost-effective. The research is conducted in close collaboration with Sebastian Fähler’s group at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf as part of a joint DFG project. In Bochum, questions related to material selection and material behavior are addressed, while in Dresden/Rossendorf, the focus is on technological implementation and process management.
