Gunther Eggeler focuses on elementary microstructural processes that determine the structural and functional behavior of engineering materials. He places particular emphasis on high-temperature materials (e.g. superalloys and Cr steels) and shape memory alloys (NiTiX-based). He is particularly interested in the relationships between microstructure and mechanical properties. He sets methodological priorities in the development of quantitative microscopic methods (LiMi, SEM, and TEM) and in the development of special mechanical test procedures (µ-mechanics, creep, fatigue). As a Senior Professor, he heads a research group at the Chair for Materials Science and Engineering and works closely with the other groups of the chair and external partners.
