On the occasion of Gunther Eggeler’s 70th birthday, former LWW members Birgit Skrotzki and Leonardo Agudo Jácome together with Alexander Kauffmann organized a special issue in Advanced Engineering Materials which is now punctually released. 40 papers were contributed by long-standing colleagues and friends covering important topics Gunther had contributed to in his career. We thank all contributors for their works.
